I’m taking the plunge into a beautiful turquoise sea as I “spring up” the house. We’re getting ready for baby, but we’re also preparing to host a great big celebration for our first-born son’s First Holy Communion. And I’m nesting, so things are getting serious around here.
We bought this house almost exactly five years ago. Over the course of the first year, I did very little in the way of decorating. There were so many other more important projects that required our focus, and our budget.
Over time, little by little, I have made and bought little touches and somehow, most of them have been red. Thankfully, turquoise and teal, juniper and blue, all look fabulous next to red. No need to eliminate everything. Really, this introduction of a new color has been more about editing than replacing.

Prints: Homegoods, Lamps & Shades: Lowes, Platter and bowls: Target

The chalice and host piece was a gift from my parents to my grandmother.
Made in Germany and perfect for our upcoming Sacrament Celebration.
To update the drapes, I chose a wide stripe and flat trim. The bottom portion used to be a red, gold, and green plaid with a tassel trim.
Classic and sleek. I think I’m in love…with my drapes.

so impressed that it stays so fresh and new! the pillows dont have stains from dirty faces and fingers! my boys like to wrap themselves in our floor length curtains! ahhhh!
enjoy!!! can’t wait to see pics with a bassinet in the background!!!
Kelly, Thank you, as always, for the compliments. I know it looks like we don’t “live” in our house, but really we do. Maybe one of these days I’ll post some photos of the house on an average day when things are all over the place.
looks AWESOME!!!!!! …as always. i’m inspired, but broke. but will try to see what i can do on a dime. because it is time.
You know Elise, I’ve been happily surprised by the sale prices at Target lately. Since I go there so often, I set my sights on something and just wait. They change house decorating items there so frequently, that things go on sale pretty quickly. I walk down the ends of the aisles and see what I can find on the “end caps” as the retail folks call them. Things are usually half the price that they were before they were marked down.
So glad to have found your blog – I absolutely love the name! Even though I am a “Danielle” I am a Martha continually striving to be more of a Mary. Your post shows a very lovely and welcoming home. The best kind. I look forward to reading more.
Thank you so much, Danielle! Glad you found the SMAM blog! ~Mary
