It was this love that propelled St. Therese to holiness, a spirituality the likes of which the Church had never seen before. On October 19, 1997, Pope Saint John Paul II proclaimed St. Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face (her religious name), a Doctor of the Church, acknowledging her Little Way to be worthy of recognition. I was there! It was an incredible experience to be present for such an occasion. When I allow myself to think about the awesomeness of being in the presence of a pope who would later be canonized a Saint, who was proclaiming my beloved St. Therese a Doctor of the Church, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. I like to think that being at St. Peter’s in Rome for such an occasion afforded me, and those I love, many special graces. To read more about St. Therese, visit this page on the EWTN website. It’s really an excellent synopsis of her life.
