Halloween House 2015

Halloween mantle
When we first got married, I was a bit “bah humbug” about Halloween. I guess I just never thought about how fun this precursor to All Saints’ Day could be once we had children. So, after Smarty Pants entered the scene, as with all holidays, I started a collection. My favorite place to go was Pier 1 just before Halloween, when everything had already been marked down. Papersource always has adorable paper craft type options like banners and postcards, and Target is great for spooky black cheese cloth and netting like the one you see on the mantle. But my absolute favorite Halloween decoration in my collection are printed out photos of the kids on the front porch each year on Halloween, all dressed up in their costumes, looking adorable and excited (or maybe crying because they changed their mind and they DON’T WANNA BE A PRINCESS ANYMORE!) Even the crying photos are cute after the drama has passed.

So, I guess I’ve become somewhat of a fan of All Hallow’s Eve. Part of it is that we go big on All Saints’ Day, so everything has its place. The fun of Halloween leads right into the Saints Marching In and that’s just the way it should be. Yeah, I have to deal with two costumes per kid each year, but some day, it’ll all be over and we’ll all look back on the chaos and creativity of this time of year with the fondest of memories. Right? Right!
