Welcome to our front porch, all decked out for Easter!

Winter has turned to spring rather quickly this year, thank you, God! Who knows what will happen with the weather on Easter Sunday since March is so unpredictable. I’m hoping for a gorgeous, sunny spring day where we can sit on the front porch and relax while the kids play outside. Aren’t we all? Thankfully, Catholics celebrate the Easter Season for fifty days (this year the Easter Season ends on May 15th – Pentecost Sunday), so we’ll have plenty of time to enjoy our Easter porch in warm, sunny weather, even if our Easter Sunday weather isn’t agreeable. We have three tables on our front porch, so I created three little areas, using items I already had, and then a few new touches. When I’m decorating a space, I like to focus on just a few colors. Yellow, turquoise (teal?), and white seem to be colors I’m drawn to this year, so I went with those. A little purple here and there and I’m definitely getting a full-on spring vibe from my decor. I tried to use little symbols of the catholic faith, one on each table. The fleur de lis is a symbol for Our Lady and for the Holy Trinity. The lamb on the round table is a symbol of Jesus, The Lamb of God, and on the third table, I made a little succulent arrangement using three ceramic crosses to remember Our Lord’s Passion. The tea lights and LED pillar candles create a warm and cozy atmosphere in the evening and at night.

If I’m going to spend money on decorative items for holidays, I try to choose things that can be used for different occasions. The crosses, for example, would be pretty on a First Holy Communion buffet or at a Baptism reception. The little mossy mat, the metal tray, the bird, the candles, are all decorative elements that could be used again and again for various occasions. So many holiday decorations are designed in such a way that you could only use them for that holiday. I try to steer clear of those whenever possible, that way I’m getting more decorating bang for my buck. So that’s my takeaway for you, call it a decorating tip, if you will. When you’re shopping for Easter decor, or looking through what you already have, think outside the box and use or purchase items that have multiple uses while still pointing to the season at hand.

One of the fun aspects of having a porch is that I’m able to create floral arrangements and wreaths for my front door that otherwise wouldn’t stand up to the elements. I was looking around on Pinterest at all the gorgeous ideas that other bloggers and designers have come up with for spring and Easter. Check out my Easter Wreaths and Spring Door Decor Pinterest board! How inspiring! I decided to go with a container instead of a wreath this year, just to mix things up. I stuck with my yellow and white theme and added a pop of pinkish purple. Three is a number for the Trinity, the white lily is a symbol for the Resurrection, and also a little nod to St. Joseph whose feast day is just about a week before Easter this year (March 19th). I wrote “Alleluia” on a little chalkboard sign which could easily be changed to just about anything! I hot-glued a skinny wooden dowel to the white metal cross and stuck it down into some floral foam inside the bucket. To me, it looks just as pretty standing up on a table in our home as it does hanging on the front door.

  1. Simply elegant arrangements! I’d display it on our front door; right underneath a magnet of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary. 😉

  2. I LOVE the succulent basket so much! What a beautiful idea. And the flowers hanging on the door are gorgeous as well. I would display Easter flowers on our mantle or on the table as a centerpiece .
