I made up some nicknames for each of my kids that I use here on the blog and in social media. Thanks in advance for keeping their names and our last name to yourself if you know our family “in real life.”  Here they are in birth order:

I started this blog in 2012 having no idea what I was doing or what shape it would take.  Deep down, all I wanted was to take pictures of my Christmas decorations and link up to The Nester’s Christmas Tour of Homes, which I have done every year since.  I heart The Nester.  Sharing my family life through a catholic lens is what I like to do here.   I tend to enjoy writing about marriage, faith, celebrating holidays and HOLYdays and birthdays and baptism days and anniversaries and the first day of school and the last day of school and recitals and band concerts and the end of the soccer season and the basketball season and when the kids finish swim lessons, and most especially, when an old and outdated household item breaks and we get to replace it.  Like I said:  Party girl.  I also enjoy writing about cooking and homemaking, parenting and the books we read.  From time to time, I write about my struggles and how I deal with them.  For me, blogging is a way to share ideas and opinions.  I prefer the former, and I share them to be helpful.  I worry that sometimes my photos and stories are too rosy.  My goal is to be more transparent without getting too personal.  I hope and pray that the words and pictures that come across as “just so” are balanced out by the everyday struggles.  I guess what I’m trying to say is, don’t judge a blog by its homepage.

I have always loved the reading from Scripture about Martha and Mary (Luke 10:38-42) because I identify with both characters in the story.  I want desperately to play both roles, and play them well.  Here’s to hoping that, over time, I’ll find a saintly balance through this life I live as a Sometimes Martha Always Mary.
